Splitting a bill is a common occurrence in an F&B outlet. Clock POS supports two types of splitting.

Applying two different payment types to a bill

Often, a guest might want to pay their bill with two different methods - e.g. half with a card and the rest with cash.

The order of the next steps depends on if you use a supported payment processor with credit card terminals.

If you use a supported payment processor:

  • navigate to the bill closing screen
  • click on 'Pay partially / other'
  • enter the amount paid and select the payment type
  • once saved, from the buttons on the bill page, select the other payment method to indicate the amount and close the bill.

If you use a supported payment processor:

  • navigate to the bill closing screen
  • click on 'Pay partially / other'
  • enter the Cash payment with its amount
  • once saved, on the bill page, select the 'Terminal' button to send the remaining amount to your Credit card terminal. You can find more information about operations with a payment processor in Payment operations in Clock POS

  • when the guest completes the payment on the terminal, the payment will be automatically posted and the bill will be closed.

Splitting a single bill into several bills

Another common request by guests in F&B outlets is to separate the items they consumed in a different bill.

To achieve this:

  • navigate to the 'Edit/Split' screen
  • select the items that the guest consumed and press 'Move selected in NEW bill'

  • if the guests shared an item and only half of its amount needs to be transferred, select the item, click on 'Split selected', and enter in what quantity you want to split.
  • a separate line will be created with the items and its quantity which you can simply move to the new bill.

Important: The 'Split selected' option works on the basis of splitting the quantity of the item and not by splitting its price. This means that when we split a bottle of wine at a cost of 25 GBP, in the two bills we will have 0.5 x 25 each and not 1 x 12.5 each.

Accessing the different bills for a table

The different bills for a table will be visible on the home page once you click on the table. You can select each of the bills and add orders to it or close them individually.
