Price Analysis

Double Room (DBL)
  • Maximum occupancy: 2+1;
  • Bed and Breakfast for two adults: 150;
  • Single occupancy: 120;
  • Child <5 years old on a regular bed free of charge (adult pays for single occupancy);
  • Child <5 years old with 2 adults – free of charge;
  • Child 5–11 years old with 2 adults – additional charge of 30.

To determine what value to enter in the rate field, we conduct a brief analysis:

  • The rate plan is set up 'Per guest', i.e., the rate will be applied individually for each guest.
  • In Clock PMS+, we can approach this in several ways:
    • Start with a rate for double occupancy and adjust it for single use;
    • Start with a rate for single occupancy and increase it for two guests;
    • Calculate a rate 'per guest' and set it as the base.
  •  In our case:
    • We do not have percentage modifications that depend on the base. This aspect is very important, as in the presence of percentage discounts, we must correctly determine their base and set exactly that as the rate for the season.
    • The lowest rate is 120 (single use).
    • Therefore, we choose the approach: set the minimum rate (120) and increase it when adding a subsequent guest.

As we have pricing conditions that vary according to the age of the children, we will use Guest Levels to set them up.

Guest Levels

We navigate to the 'Guest Levels' tab.

We arrange the levels according to the possible guest combinations. It is good practice to order children by ascending age. For this room type, possible combinations are: 1+0, 1+1, 1+2, 2+0, 2+1.

Configuring the first two beds

Base rate 120: valid for single occupancy and for an adult + child up to 5 years old combination.

  • Add a Child Level, with a maximum age of 4 → rate 0 -  if the second guest is a child under 5 years old, there is no additional charge.
  • Add a Level 2 Adult/Child → rate 30 - applies if the second guest is an adult or a child over 5 years old.
  • Thus, for double occupancy, the final rate becomes 150 (120 + 30).

Please note:
  • The 'Child' level applies only to children.
  • The 'Adult/Child' level is valid for both adults and children if there is no specific child level entered for them.

Configuring a third guest:

In the conditions, we also have the option for a third guest (child).

  • Add a Child Level, with a maximum age of 4 and rate 0 - young children are free of charge.
  • Add another Child Level,  with a maximum age of 11 and rate 30 - if the third guest is a child over 5 years old, an additional charge of 30 is added.

Please note that in this specific case, the additional charge for a regular and an extra bed for an older child is the same – 30. Since the 'Adult/Child' level is the only one and there is no subsequent level of this type, we could opt not to add a separate level for an older child on an extra bed. The reason is that if the system does not find a specific child level, it will automatically apply the last valid 'Adult' level.

That is, the rate would calculate correctly even with the following, more abbreviated configuration:

However, it is important to emphasise that this is rather an exception, caused by the coincidence of the values. In our solution, we recommend thoroughly detailing all levels to ensure correct calculation for all additional charge values.

With this, we have covered all occupancy combinations for a Double Room:

  • 1 adult → 120.
  • 1 adult + child up to 5 years old → 120.
  • 2 adults or 1 adult + child over 5 years old → 150.
  • 2 adults + child 5-11 years old → 150 + 30 = 180.
